MONITORING ACTIONS-E2

Monitoring of the target species

Partner responsible for the action: Centro Studi Naturalistici – onlus

A detailed monitoring plan will be drawn up which will list, among other things, the monitoring objectives and the reason for choosing them, survey timing (at least annual), the survey techniques, survey areas, the information system for data collection and catalogue and potential statistical analyses. This plan will consist of a research protocol of tested methods for species or groups of species based on field survey, through surveying from sampling points or transects and data sampling for bats and reptiles. In addition to direct observation, sound survey with a bat-detector will be used for bats. In particular, all of the sites in the area which are suitable for reproduction and overwintering will be surveyed in order to better understand the local biology of the target species.

The scientific monitoring will be aimed at evaluating the results obtained through the actions foreseen and in particular:

· The impact of actions C1 and C4 on the populations of the Italian Tree Frog, the Italian Newt and the Italian Crested Newt.

· The effects of actions C3 and C5 on bats.

Amphibian monitoring will take place through listening and observation points relating to the reproductive techniques of the Italian Tree Frog, while for the other two species, suitable locations for reproduction and overwintering will be identified in order to develop a database of presence/absence, reproduction and overwintering locations. The relevant threat is 7.

Expected results:

· A complete picture of the results produced by the project in terms of benefits for the target species resulting from the conservation actions.

· The availability of homogeneous data gathered during the 4 years of the project gives a picture of population dynamics and will provide the basis for permanent monitoring activities of the species and the species habitats.
